Brothers (Chinese) Recording studio in Oakland is owned and operated by brothers Jay and Ian Pellicci who have been passionate about music and recording, and have been working in studios since 1998. We work with projects and artists at all levels – from the seasoned artist to a band’s first time recording.

The studio holds a rich history and has had many iterations, including originally being the demo studio for En Vogue’s producers Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy. Some notable clients include: Deerhoof, Tuneyards, OM, The Dodos, Bob Mould, Thao & Mirah, and Jason Lytle

The studio is centered around a custom Neve console (commissioned in 1978) and ATC SCM 25a monitors. It has excellent workflow, organization, and tons of vintage and modern equipment making it very welcoming for visiting engineers. Burl converters are used for digital multitrack capture and playback, a Studer A80 2” 16-track recorder for tape, and an Ampex ATR-102 for mixdown, if desired. While most albums are digital these days, we still make the occasional analog record. The studio has also been getting recognized as one of the best-sounding control rooms in the Bay area.

Matt Boudreau is a Bay Area mixing, mastering, and recording engineer specializing in stereo and Dolby Atmos based in Lafayette in the East Bay. With over 30 years of experience in audio production, Matt offers professional audio services to artists, labels, and producers across the San Francisco Bay Area and worldwide via remote sessions.

Matt’s career in audio began in 1994 after years as a working drummer and band member in San Francisco. He was the drummer for The Sextants and Seven Day Diary, both of whom secured major label deals — giving him firsthand experience of the recording studio from the artist’s side before he ever stepped behind the console. That perspective shapes everything he does as an engineer: he knows what artists need to hear, and he knows how to get them there.

His credits include Alanis Morissette, Green Day, Death Cab for Cutie, Florence and the Machine, Deafheaven, and He Who Cannot Be Named. He has produced, engineered, mixed, mastered, owned studios, and restored audio across three decades of Bay Area music.

In recent years, Matt has developed deep expertise in Dolby Atmos mixing and immersive audio. As spatial audio has become standard on platforms like Apple Music and Amazon Music HD, Matt has positioned himself as one of the Bay Area’s leading Atmos mixing engineers — offering both stereo and immersive mixes from his Lafayette studio.

Matt is the founder and host of Working Class Audio, a podcast for working audio professionals with over 20,000 monthly listeners and 530+ episodes. Through hundreds of interviews with engineers, producers, studio owners, and musicians, Working Class Audio has become one of the most respected resources in the industry for honest conversations about building a sustainable career in audio.
